Ten reminders to help lower your gaze and protect your heart:

1. Obey the command of Allah

“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity.” (Qur’an 24:30)

If you consider yourself a believer, then respond to the command of your Lord.

2. Remember that Allah sees every glance

“Allah knows the sly glances of the eyes and whatever the hearts conceal.” (Qur’an 40:19)

You may deceive people into thinking you’re not looking—but you can never deceive Allah.

3. Be more conscious of Allah than of people

One of the Salaf said, “Do not make Allah the least significant of those who are watching you.”

Do not fear people’s eyes more than the gaze of your Creator. A believer strives to obey Allah in private just as he does in public.

4. Remember the Day you will stand before Allah

“And as for those who feared standing before their Lord and restrained themselves from desires, Paradise will certainly be their home.” (Qur’an 79:40–41)

Ask yourself: How will I answer Allah when He asks me about the glances I chose not to lower?

5. Remember what lasts

“The Hereafter is better and more everlasting.” (Qur’an 87:17)

The pleasure of this world is brief and fleeting. The pleasure of the Hereafter is perfect and eternal.

6. Never underestimate the first glance

The Prophet ﷺ said, “The glance is one of the poisoned arrows of Iblis.”

Every major temptation begins with a single look. Just as a poisoned arrow harms the body, an unchecked gaze poisons the heart and weakens one’s Iman.

7. Compare the outcomes

A forbidden glance brings only a moment of pleasure followed by sin, regret, and a weakened heart. Lowering your gaze may feel difficult for a moment, but it strengthens your Iman, protects your heart, and earns the pleasure of Allah.

8. Think about the long-term consequences

Every glance strengthens a habit. If a person never disciplines his eyes, he may continue looking at haram long after youthful desires have faded. Guard your gaze today so you don’t become enslaved to it tomorrow.

9. Look beyond outward beauty

“Wicked women are for wicked men, and wicked men are for wicked women.” (Qur’an 24:26)

Reflect on the reality behind what tempts you. Outward beauty may be attractive, but it often conceals inner corruption and spiritual filth.

10. Focus on what truly benefits you

The Prophet ﷺ said, “From the perfection of one’s Islam is to leave what does not concern him.”

A believer occupies himself with what benefits him in this life and the next—not with what only harms his heart.

Lower your gaze today, and Allah will raise your rank tomorrow.

Which of these reminders resonates with you the most? Share it with someone who could benefit.
